Bio
Romanenko trained as a Soviet Air Force pilot before selection to the cosmonaut corps. His first long-duration flight, Soyuz 26 / Soyuz 27, opened regular operations aboard Salyut 6 and included a spacewalk to inspect docking equipment after the failed Soyuz 25 attempt.
His second flight, Soyuz 38, was an Interkosmos mission with Cuban cosmonaut Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez. His third, Soyuz TM-2 / Soyuz TM-3, placed him aboard Mir for 326 days, which was then the longest single spaceflight ever completed.
Romanenko's mission sequence is three flights, not separate flight cards for every station label. His career links Salyut 6, Interkosmos diplomacy, Mir's early long-duration operations, and the demanding EVA work that made Soviet orbital stations sustainable.
