William S. McArthur Jr.
William Surles McArthur Jr. is a retired United States Army aviator, test pilot, and NASA astronaut whose career bridged shuttle laboratory work, early ISS assembly, and long-duration station command.

Bio
McArthur graduated from the United States Military Academy and later earned graduate training in aerospace engineering. Before NASA, he built a career in Army aviation and , giving him the operational background needed for shuttle and station work.
He flew STS-58, STS-74, and STS-92 during the shuttle era. Those missions connected life-sciences research, Shuttle-Mir docking hardware, and early International assembly.
McArthur later launched on Soyuz TMA-7 and commanded 12. During that station mission he performed work and helped maintain ISS operations during the post-Columbia recovery period.
