Vladislav Nikolayevich Volkov
Vladislav Nikolayevich Volkov was a Soviet engineer-cosmonaut who flew on Soyuz 7 and Soyuz 11. His career connected spacecraft design work with the first successful occupation of a , and it ended in the Soyuz 11 tragedy.

Bio
Volkov graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute and worked at the Korolev design bureau on Vostok and Voskhod spacecraft before his cosmonaut selection. Like several civilian specialists, he entered spaceflight from the engineering side rather than the military pilot path.
His first flight, Soyuz 7 in 1969, was part of the Soyuz 6/7/8 group mission. The planned docking was not completed, but the mission added experience in multi-spacecraft operations and Soyuz systems testing.
Volkov's second flight, Soyuz 11, carried him with Georgy Dobrovolsky and Viktor Patsayev to Salyut 1. The crew lived aboard the first space station for 23 days, but all three died when Soyuz 11 depressurized during preparations.
