Bio
Solovyov trained as an engineer and joined the Energia cosmonaut group in 1978. His technical background placed him in the same civilian specialist tradition as several station who understood spacecraft both as crews and as systems engineers.
His first mission launched on Soyuz T-10 in February 1984 with Leonid Kizim and Oleg Atkov. The crew lived aboard Salyut 7 for nearly eight months, conducted medical and manufacturing work, and performed several EVAs to repair station systems.
In 1986, Solovyov flew Soyuz T-15 with Kizim on the only mission to visit two during one flight. The crew operated Mir, transferred to Salyut 7 to retrieve equipment and perform EVAs, then returned to Mir before landing.
