Vladimír Remek
Vladimír Remek is a Czech military pilot, cosmonaut, diplomat, and politician who became the first person in space who was neither Soviet nor American. His Soyuz 28 mission opened the Intercosmos era of allied-national spaceflights.

Bio
Remek trained as a Czechoslovak Air Force pilot and was selected through the Intercosmos program. His flight carried strong political symbolism, but it also involved real biomedical, materials, and Earth-observation work aboard Salyut 6.
Soyuz 28 launched in March 1978 with Aleksei Gubarev and docked with Salyut 6. Remek worked with the resident crew and completed the first international visiting mission to a Soviet orbital station.
After spaceflight, Remek served in aviation, diplomacy, and elected office, including as a Member of the European Parliament. His flight expanded human spaceflight beyond the original two superpowers.
