Steven A. Hawley
Steven Alan Hawley is an American astronomer, professor, and former NASA astronaut. Selected with NASA Astronaut Group 8 in 1978, he flew five shuttle missions and became closely connected with the Hubble Space Telescope era.

Bio
Hawley entered NASA with a background in astronomy and astrophysics. That scientific training carried into shuttle payload work, where bridged spacecraft operations and research payload objectives.
His first spaceflight was STS-41-D, Discovery's maiden mission. He later flew STS-61-C, STS-31, STS-82, and STS-93.
STS-31 deployed the Hubble Space Telescope, STS-82 serviced Hubble, and STS-93 launched Chandra. Hawley therefore sits at the intersection of shuttle operations and NASA's flagship observatory program.
After NASA, Hawley became a professor and administrator at the University of Kansas. His career strongly links astronaut operations with space astronomy.
