Bio
Zalyotin trained as a fighter pilot before cosmonaut selection in 1990. He completed training for Mir station work through the 1990s, including assignments affected by funding problems and the uncertain future of Mir after permanent occupation ended.
Soyuz TM-30 launched in 2000 with Aleksandr Kaleri for a privately funded MirCorp mission to reactivate, repair, and assess Mir. Zalyotin later flew Soyuz TMA-1 and returned on Soyuz TM-34 in 2002 for a short ISS visiting mission.
