Satoshi Furukawa
Satoshi Furukawa is a Japanese surgeon and retired JAXA astronaut who completed two long-duration missions to the International . His career brought medical training into space operations, first through Japan's NASDA/JAXA astronaut corps and later through international commercial-crew transport.

Bio
Furukawa earned medical and doctoral degrees from the University of Tokyo and worked in surgery before astronaut selection. JAXA selected him in 1999, and he spent years preparing for station operations, undersea analog training, and international mission assignments.
His first flight launched on Soyuz TMA-02M in 2011 for 28 and 29. His second launched on SpaceX Crew-7 in 2023 and returned in 2024 after Expeditions 69 and 70.
The expedition labels are station increments within two transport missions, not separate flight cards. Furukawa retired from JAXA on March 31, 2026, after two completed spaceflights and more than 366 days in orbit.
