Salizhan Shakirovich Sharipov
Salizhan Shakirovich Sharipov is a retired cosmonaut, military pilot, and veteran of both Shuttle-Mir and ISS operations. Born in the Uzbek SSR and often identified with Kyrgyzstan, he represents the complex multinational roots of the Soviet and Russian cosmonaut corps.

Bio
Sharipov trained as an Air Force pilot before his 1990 cosmonaut selection. He completed general cosmonaut training in 1992 and prepared for Mir and ISS assignments, giving him experience across the transition from late Soviet/Russian station operations to international station partnerships.
His first spaceflight was STS-89 aboard Endeavour in 1998, the eighth Shuttle-Mir docking mission. His second was Soyuz TMA-5, a long-duration ISS 10 mission with Leroy Chiao after launch with Yuri Shargin.
