Reinhold Ewald
Reinhold Ewald is a German physicist and ESA astronaut who flew one short-duration mission to Mir. His mission belonged to Germany's Mir research program and helped prepare European operational experience before the International era.

Bio
Ewald studied experimental physics at the University of Cologne, earning a diploma and doctorate before astronaut selection. He joined the German astronaut team in 1990 and trained first as backup for the Mir 92 mission.
He launched on Soyuz TM-25 in February 1997 with Vasily Tsibliyev and Aleksandr Lazutkin and returned on Soyuz TM-24. During nearly twenty days in space, he performed biomedical and materials-science experiments aboard Mir. Mir is the station context inside that mission rather than a separate spaceflight.
