Bio
Barnawi's professional background is in biomedical research rather than military aviation. Her selection by the Saudi Space Commission for Ax-2 connected Saudi Arabia's renewed human-spaceflight ambitions with commercial access to the ISS.
Axiom Mission 2 launched in May 2023 aboard Crew Dragon Freedom with Peggy Whitson, John Shoffner, Ali AlQarni, and Barnawi. The mission performed research, education, and outreach activities during a short ISS stay. The ISS visit is mission context inside that Crew Dragon card, not an additional flight.
