Pham Tuan
Pham Tuan is a Vietnamese military aviator and Intercosmos cosmonaut who became the first Vietnamese citizen and the first Asian person in space. His flight on Soyuz 37 was an important Cold War-era symbol of Soviet-Vietnamese cooperation.

Bio
Before spaceflight, Pham Tuan served as a fighter pilot in the Vietnam People's Air Force. His military career and public reputation made him a prominent national representative for Vietnam's Intercosmos mission.
He launched on Soyuz 37 in July 1980 with Viktor Gorbatko and visited Salyut 6. The mission included of Vietnam, life-science work, and materials-processing experiments, and the crew returned to Earth on Soyuz 36. Salyut 6 is the station assignment and mission context.
