Bio
Richards studied mechanical engineering at Drexel University and the University of Maryland. Before flight assignment, he worked engineering and -support roles that fit the early station assembly era.
On STS-102, Richards helped deliver the 2 crew, return Expedition 1, and move station logistics using the Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module. He also performed an EVA with Andrew Thomas. The important detail is not the count, but that his single mission sat right at the transition from station construction to permanent occupation.
