Bio
Hansen grew up in Ontario and entered the Canadian Armed Forces before earning degrees in space science and physics from the Royal Military College of Canada. He flew CF-18 fighters, served as an instructor and officer, and joined the Canadian astronaut corps in 2009.
Before his first spaceflight, Hansen spent years supporting astronaut training, operations, exploration planning, and Canadian participation in human spaceflight. His Artemis II assignment reflected Canada's role in the Artemis program through Canadarm3 and lunar Gateway cooperation.
On Artemis II, Hansen flew around the Moon with Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch aboard Orion. The mission placed him among the first Artemis astronauts to reach lunar distance and gave Canada its first deep-space human spaceflight.
