Janet Lynn Kavandi is an American chemist, former NASA astronaut, NASA center director, and aerospace executive. She flew three shuttle missions and later led major NASA organizations.

Bio
Kavandi studied chemistry through the doctoral level and worked in industry before NASA selected her with Astronaut Group 15 in 1994. Her technical background was in analytical chemistry and materials-related work.
She flew STS-91, the final Shuttle-Mir docking mission, STS-99, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, and STS-104, which delivered the Quest Joint Airlock to the ISS. Her missions span Shuttle-Mir, Earth mapping, and station assembly.
After her flights, Kavandi served as deputy chief of the Astronaut Office and later director of NASA Glenn Research Center. She then moved into commercial space leadership at Sierra Space.
