James F. Reilly II
James Francis Reilly II is an American geologist, retired NASA astronaut, and former director of the United States Geological Survey. He flew three shuttle missions and performed major ISS assembly .

Bio
Reilly earned bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in geosciences from the University of Texas at Dallas. Before NASA he worked in exploration geology, including Antarctic research and offshore energy projects.
His flights were STS-89 to Mir, STS-104 to deliver the Quest airlock, and STS-117 to install the S3/S4 truss. STS-104 and STS-117 made him an important EVA crewmember in the physical construction of the ISS.
After NASA, Reilly moved into public science leadership and served as USGS director from 2018 to 2021.
