Gayle King
Gayle King is a journalist and broadcaster known for long-form interviews and national morning television. At the time Blue Origin announced the NS-31 crew, she was co-host of CBS Mornings, editor-at-large of Oprah Daily, and host of a SiriusXM radio program. Blue Origin described the flight as an opportunity for King to step outside her comfort zone and remain open to an experience that had initially frightened her.

King launched aboard New Shepard mission NS-31 from West Texas on April 14, 2025. The six-woman crew crossed the Kármán line during the program's eleventh human flight, after which the autonomous returned under parachutes and the reusable landed separately.
NS-31 was the first all-woman spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova's solo Vostok 6 mission in 1963. For King, the one completed suborbital flight turned a deliberately uncomfortable personal challenge into another subject she could interpret for a broad public audience.
