Daniel M. Tani
Daniel Michio Tani is an American engineer and retired NASA astronaut whose career bridges shuttle logistics, ISS assembly, and long-duration station operations. He flew one short shuttle mission and one long station increment.

Bio
Tani earned mechanical engineering degrees from MIT and worked in aerospace engineering before NASA selected him in 1996. His technical background was in spacecraft systems, structures, and operations rather than military aviation.
His first flight, STS-108, delivered supplies and exchanged ISS crews in 2001. His second spaceflight launched on STS-120 in October 2007, kept him aboard the ISS as an Expedition 16 , and returned him on STS-122 in February 2008.
Tani performed six during his station career, including assembly and maintenance work during the challenging Expedition 16 period. His flight record is shown as two spaceflights because the STS-120/STS-122 station stay was one continuous mission.
