Brewster Shaw Jr.
Brewster Hopkinson Shaw Jr. is an American Air Force officer, test pilot, NASA astronaut, shuttle , and aerospace executive. Selected with NASA Astronaut Group 8 in 1978, he flew during the rapid expansion of operational shuttle missions in the 1980s.

Bio
Shaw entered NASA with fighter, instructor, and test-pilot experience from the United States Air Force. His first shuttle assignment placed him on STS-9, the first Spacelab mission and the longest shuttle flight to that point.
On STS-9, Shaw served as pilot aboard Columbia while the crew operated Spacelab 1, a major step toward using the shuttle as a reusable science laboratory. He later commanded STS-61-B, an Atlantis mission that deployed satellites and tested construction techniques for future .
His third flight was STS-28 in 1989, a classified Department of Defense mission aboard Columbia. That mission put him among the shuttle commanders who carried the program through the post-Challenger national-security flight era.
After NASA, Shaw moved into aerospace leadership, including senior shuttle and launch-system work for industry. His career connects Spacelab science, early assembly experiments, military shuttle missions, and later program management.
