Andre Douglas
Andre Douglas is an American systems engineer, Coast Guard Reserve officer, and NASA astronaut. NASA selected him with Astronaut Group 23 in 2021 after a career in maritime engineering, autonomous systems, robotics, planetary defense, and space systems at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Bio
Douglas earned a mechanical engineering degree from the United States Coast Guard Academy, two University of Michigan master's degrees, a Johns Hopkins master's degree, and a doctorate in systems engineering from George Washington University. That education tracks cleanly into his work on complex autonomous and spaceflight systems.
Before NASA, Douglas served as a Coast Guard officer and naval architect, then moved into technical work at Johns Hopkins APL. There he supported DART planetary defense, MEGANE for JAXA's Martian Moons eXploration spacecraft, maritime robotics, and lunar-surface technology planning.
NASA named Douglas the backup crew member for Artemis II in 2024 and later assigned him as a for Artemis III. No flown mission is currently listed for him, so the archive separates his backup and assigned work from flown spaceflight time.
