Anatoly Filipchenko
Anatoly Vasilyevich Filipchenko was a Soviet Air Force major general and cosmonaut who commanded Soyuz 7 and Soyuz 16. His two flights were tied to testing and the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project preparation cycle.

Bio
Filipchenko came from the Soviet military pilot track and was selected in Air Force Group 2. He flew during the first generation of Soyuz operational testing, when crews were still proving rendezvous, docking, and long-range mission procedures.
Soyuz 7 was part of the three-spacecraft Soyuz 6/7/8 mission sequence in 1969. Soyuz 16, flown in 1974, served as a rehearsal for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, testing compatible systems and crew procedures before the joint flight.
After leaving the space program in 1982, Filipchenko worked in aerospace management, including deputy-director work at a design bureau in Kharkiv. He died on August 7, 2022, at age 94.
