Aleksey Boroday
Aleksey Sergeyevich Boroday was a Soviet and Russian test pilot, Buran program cosmonaut-test pilot, and aviation colonel. He never flew in space, but he was one of the people trained for the crewed Buran path that never happened.

Bio
Boroday came through DOSAAF flight training, Soviet military aviation, Kachinskoye pilot training, and Akhtubinsk test-pilot training. In 1978 he was approved for the GKNII Air Force cosmonaut group connected to Buran work.
He trained as a cosmonaut-test pilot and flew the OK-GLI/BTS-002 atmospheric Buran test aircraft. He was also connected to planned Soyuz-rescue or Buran-support crew scenarios before the Buran program collapsed with the Soviet Union's breakup.
After leaving the cosmonaut program in 1993, Boroday returned to aviation. He survived the 1996 Aeroflot An-124 accident near Turin with severe injuries and died on August 10, 2024.
