Aleksei Aleksandrovich Gubarev
Aleksei Aleksandrovich Gubarev was a Soviet naval aviation officer, major general, and cosmonaut whose two missions connected the Salyut station program with the beginning of Intercosmos crewed flights. He commanded the first long-duration crew aboard Salyut 4 and later commanded the first Intercosmos mission.

Bio
Gubarev trained through Soviet naval aviation and the Gagarin Air Force Academy before entering the cosmonaut corps. He also trained for lunar and military Soyuz assignments before his flight career shifted toward Salyut station operations.
His first spaceflight, Soyuz 17, launched in January 1975 with Georgy Grechko. The crew occupied Salyut 4 for nearly a month, conducted astrophysics and biomedical work, and set a Soviet mission-duration record at the time.
Gubarev returned on Soyuz 28 in 1978 with Vladimír Remek of Czechoslovakia. Remek became the first person in space who was neither American nor Soviet, making Gubarev of the first crewed Intercosmos mission.
