Aleksandr Panayotov Aleksandrov
Aleksandr Panayotov Aleksandrov is a retired Bulgarian Air Force officer, research cosmonaut, and the second Bulgarian citizen to fly in space. His 1988 Mir mission gave Bulgaria the station visit that the earlier Soyuz 33 flight had been unable to complete.

Bio
Aleksandrov graduated from the Bulgarian Air Force Academy and later earned a technical-sciences degree. Selected through Intercosmos in 1978, he first served as backup to Georgi Ivanov on Soyuz 33, the mission that failed to dock with Salyut 6.
He launched on Soyuz TM-5 in June 1988 with Anatoly Solovyev and Viktor Savinykh. During the Mir EP-2 visit, Aleksandrov carried out Bulgarian scientific work and became the first Bulgarian to reach a Soviet .
Aleksandrov returned aboard Soyuz TM-4 after just under ten days in space. After the flight, he continued work in Bulgarian space research, including leadership roles connected to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
